The number one team in the FIVB World Ranking mastered a 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) shutout of the Dutch in just 70 minutes on the court and stayed on track to defending the crown they earned last year for the second consecutive and overall third time. Italy quickly broke away with a five-point lead in the first set. The Netherlands fought back to within two, but a long series of five points in a row on middle blocker and captain Anna Danesi’s turn to serve, the southern Europeans ran off again, with a 21-14 advantage. The Dutch kept up the pressure through the end, but finally, 22-year-old outside hitter Stella Nervini spiked the set winner for 25-21. Italy stormed the second set on a 7-1 run and never looked back, until Danesi’s elegant tip put an end to it at 25-16. The western European side took an early 3-1 lead in set three, but the champions reacted with four in a row to step in front for good. The two teams traded some long series of points, before the Italians ended up with another 25-16 close to claim the match victory. Italy outperformed the Netherlands on all scoring counts - 10-3 in kill blocks, 7-2 in aces, 42-38 in spike kills and 10-16 in unforced errors. Italian opposite Ekaterina Antropova led the way with a match-high 15 points. Her tally featured three aces and three kill blocks. Outside Myriam Sylla and middle blocker Sarah Fahr also reached the double digits with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
“We knew that the first match was a little bit about breaking ice,” Antropova told VBTV. “We needed to get some of our rhythm back, and we are really happy that we could make a lot of subs and everyone could feel the court. And we are just excited to continue our journey…” Antropova’s Dutch counterpart Elles Dambrink was her team’s only player to reach the double digits. She scored 13 points, including one ace and one kill block, in the Netherlands’ last match of the VNL 2026 season. “We reached the Finals and we can be really proud of that already,” said Dambrink. “But once you are here, you really want to go on. So, right now, it’s a disappointment, but I think we can also be proud.”

The company leverages the patented ThrustPodtechnology - an all-electric system that enables efficient, safe and quiet vertical take-off and landing for fixed-wing aircraft.
Introducing SUPAIR’s vision is CEO Angelo Lerro: “We were founded in November 2024 with the goal of bringing to market a technology patented by Politecnico in 2020. In 2022, the university received funding from Tech4Planet (Italy’s second National Technology Transfer Hub launched by CDP Venture Capital), to advance the technology to TRL 6 by developing a demonstrator. That funding led to the creation of SUPAIR, with Tech4Planet as a shareholder”.
SUPAIR was established not only to commercialise the technology, but to deliver a complete aerial system: the aircraft - currently a drone - and a control station capable of managing fleets of up to 20 units. The company’s technologies are scalable and can also be applied to aircraft for transporting passengers, such as air taxis. SUPAIR’s aircraft stand out for their performance: speeds of up to 300 km/h (with a cruising speed of 150 km/h), a range of up to 400 km, a payload capacity of up to 5 kg and a maximum altitude of 5,000 meters. Another distinctive feature is the system’s high tolerance to adverse weather conditions, which ensures greater precision during take-off, flight and landing, even in tight spaces. To date, two main applications have been tested: surveillance of remote or marine areas, and the delivery of essential goods such as blood bags or medication. “We’re developing a turnkey, closed flight system, fully developed both in its hardware and software components - Lerro explains - and our target clients include governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as companies working in territorial monitoring and surveillance”.
Currently in the design phase, the aerial system is expected to be ready by summer 2026. SUPAIR is therefore seeking partners interested in the subsequent industrialisation and production stages. Two companies have already expressed interest, one for manufacturing the product and another for developing communication systems.“The demonstrator aircraft validates the patented technology. We are now building a prototype within a project focused on monitoring strategic infrastructures and conducting reconnaissance in highly complex environments”, explains SUPAIR CTO Gioacchino Cafiero.
